Now everyone can get tablet – NRK

the iPad is much more exciting than a notebook and pencil, ” says tiendeklassingen Fredrik Nærup with a smile.

15-year-old, who goes on Vøyenenga school, is one of the 6 000 bærumselever that have been given tablets to use in school and at home. Also Mats Luke Fromreide are happy for the electronic tool they have gotten for free through the pilot project Digital day at school.

– In the tablet we have everything we need. Absolutely everything, ” he says appreciatively.

– We have lots of different apps. One called “pages” so that we can do homework. We have a garasjeband app that we use in music. Books is unnecessary, mean boys.

Motivates the boys

the Trial of the tablets in Harrogate started at five schools in 2015 and was extended with ten new schools in the fall. Henriette Ibsen, who teaches English at Vøyenenga school, have marked the difference in many boys after tablets came.

Boys raise themselves. They write more now that they have got keyboard. They think it is more exciting and fun, and they want more challenges than they did in the past, ” says the teacher is satisfied.

That tablets inspire and motivate the boys is one of the effects that also Bærums commissioner of education points out that very gratifying.

Much of the coursework can be carried out on the tablets and the books are almost superfluous.

Although the project is not fully assessed, Bærum harvested a part from good experiences after one year of operation. The findings will now be presented at a conference in hjemkommunen.

“We believe that tablets make it easier to provide customized training, special education and language training to minority,” says Reed Herikstad.

She also believes the distribution of free tablets to grunnskoleelevene contribute to social levelling and inclusion as everyone gets access to the same learning material, regardless of background.

Think all need to get

Only 6 000 of Bærums 16 000 pupils have been taking part in the trial of the tablets. But the good experiences which the municipality has made himself, can pave the way for tablets in all school bags. The leader of the hovedutvalg for children and young people, Anne Lene Hojem, says the politicians should take a position on this until the spring.

– I can not guarantee that the whole council will have tablets in all schools, but I say yes, ” says the Right-the politician.

– Not-so-expensive

Bærum municipality has calculated that it will cost almost 6 million a year to equip all students and teachers with their own tablet. The experience is that it is much cheaper with tablets than computers.

Our calculation is that it goes to four tablets on a pc, ” says the superintendent.

Can a tablet completely replace computers?

– We have applied for the examination adapted to the tablet. Where we are waiting for a response from the Education directorate. The national tests are customized, and we are happy with that, ” says superintendent Reed Herikstad.
