Early in October came Microsoft with a little surprising announcement that storage quotas related free edition of OneDrive and storage included Office 365 subscriptions, should be significantly reduced.
This led to considerable protests from many of the affected users who were frustrated and disappointed by this announcement.
Some replacement
Now, more than a month later, Microsoft has made an apology. While attempting the company to make amends – at least a little.
For Douglas Pearce in Microsoft writes that the company does not really intend to change their plans to reduce free quota from 15 to 5 gigabytes, but Office 365 quota reduced from unlimited to 1 terabyte.
For users who lose the unlimited quota, Microsoft has no other consolation that it will not happen until at least 12 months, and that those who still are dissatisfied may request refund the money they have paid for the service.
For free users, however, Microsoft has a better Christmas present. It is now possible for users to prevent storage shrinking next year. To do this, users must enter on this page to avoid that their account will be affected by the changes.
This means incidentally also the Camera Roll storage space on an additional 15 gigabytes disappears. However, it is necessary to carry out this deactivation by the end of January 2016 for it to be taken into account.
More free
However, according to Pearce, Microsoft will also offer a one-year free subscription to Office 365, including storage space of 1 terabyte, to use the free edition of OneDrive, if they have more than 5 gigabytes content stored. These users will be contacted by email at the beginning of 2016 with the message about how this offer could be used.
