Only 34 percent say they never use their mobiles when they run.
In Norway, 91 per cent of adults who say they have a smartphone. This we take with us – and use – even when we drive a car.
According to a survey conducted by market research company YouGov on behalf of Codan Forsikring admits two of the three Norwegian motorists that they are using smart phone behind the wheel.
38 percent say they have experienced dangerous situations as a result of its own or others’ use of mobile phones while driving. Two years ago the corresponding figure was 23 percent.
The study examines the Norwegian drivers’ use of and attitudes towards the use of mobile phones while driving. Of respondents answered 12 percent said they often use their mobiles while driving. 54 percent say they do it occasionally, while only 34 percent said they never use their mobiles when they run.
Men using mobile more often than women when they’re behind the wheel, and younger drivers are more likely to use mobile than older.
– We have over several years studied the use of mobile phones among drivers, and we see a clear negative trend. An increasing number say they use mobile phone while driving, while more experienced dangerous situations. It says Stefan Langva, CEO of Codan Forsikring.
Previously, there was much talk about conversations with or without hands, and in the year 2000 came the ban on using mobile phones without hands.
Smart phones have many doubled the chances of being distracted while driving.
In the present survey it emerges that there are almost as many who read or send text messages while driving, talking on the phone without hands-free .
According to figures from NPRA killed 29 people as a result of mobile phone use behind the wheel of Norway in the years 2005-2013. But the dark figures are probably large, for each year are between 15,000 and 20,000 motorists fined for illegal use of mobile phones in the car.
Figures from the USA show that more than 3,000 people die annually in road accidents as a result of that they are distracted while driving . Subtitles behind the wheel has taken over for drunk driving as the leading cause of death among American teenagers.

– luckily it is far from fatal accidents that we know is due to cell phone use behind the wheel, but it can be difficult to know quite exact. The results of our survey show that there are many accidents. We also believe that many small collisions and injuries caused by drivers focus on other things than the traffic. Just look at any wholly parking a busy afternoon, and see how many people have one hand on the steering wheel and one on the mobile, points Langva. (ANB)
