Activision: Call of Duty series broke all in 2016 – Gamereactor Norge

There are many who will say that they sold the best during the previous year, but there is probably no one who can punish Activision Blizzard when they accumulate sales across the Call of Duty series. In their last finansrapport they claim namely that the series was the one that sold the most in 2016, some of which include salgssuksesser as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 in addition to the older games.

Although it is not necessarily any reason to doubt the assertion, it is worth noting that it is based on figures from the NPD Group and GfK Chart-Track. These do not cover all corners of the world, but in each case, with large markets such as Europe and North America.

Activision Blizzard had a very good year with a turnover of 6,61 billion dollars (or over 55 billion Norwegian kroner), which is a dramatic increase from 4,66 billion dollars the year before.

It is also interesting to read that the players spent 43 billion hours of games to Activision Blizzard in 2016, which corresponds to about the same as the numbers for Netflix.

Activision Blizzard boss Bobby Kotick had the following to say in a press release:

“Our record performance in 2016 further strengthened our position as the world’s leading standalone interactive entertainment company. For the quarter and the year, we delivered our highest revenues, non-GAAP redefined operating margins and earnings per share, well surpassing our own expectation.”

“The launch of Blizzard’s Overwatch created a major new franchise, while King’s mobile advertising tests are very promising as the basis for meaningful new revenue streams. We accelerated our efforts in esports and consumer products, enabling more ways two celebrate and connect to our communities. Thanks to the strength of our established franchises and the vitality of our new initiatives, we are well positioned for growth in the years ahead.”
