Your page Apple has now released the final version of OS X 10.10 Yosemite on the Mac App Store.

Yosemite is not like revolutionary upgrade for Mac people that Windows 10 is going to be for PC people next year, but there are still more things to enjoy, including a fresher design and even closer integration with the iOS.

Considering that the program is free, there are few reasons not to take step over to the new version.

Here is a review of the most important news.

“New” Design

OS X Yosemite has referred gotten a visual overhaul that is in harmony with the latest versions of iOS. Everything from menus and the dock, the programs and icons have been given a new and fresher look. It is lighter, cleaner, flatter and more transparent – in all more modern.

With a few exceptions, things still work as before. Apple has not made any drastic changes like Microsoft with Windows 8 and it will probably most appreciate.

Font-frustration …

The most “controversial” change is probably that Apple has changed the system font, that font used everywhere in the menus and settings, from Lucida Grande to Helvetica Neue.

It is thinner and more have therefore complained that it is difficult to read, especially small text.

It will look sharp and nice on Macs with high resolution Retina displays, but it is for now only a minority of users who have this.

… and fullscreen confusion

Some will probably still see it as confusing at the start. Nor is any app that supports full-screen mode, and in these the green button still have zoom capability.

If you miss the old button, do not despair! You can still activate the zoom function by pressing the ALT key before pressing the green icon.

Dark theme

In Yosemite, it is moreover also possible to use a dark theme instead of the light. Nice as it may be less tiring for the eyes at night.

Many professional creative professionals also prefer dark environments on the desktop including correct alignment of images.

Everything is admittedly not dark, only the menu bar and menus, the Dock, and Spotlight search. Third-party developers have already begun to update their apps to support dark themes, and we expect that this will become more prevalent over time.

Switch to dark theme via “System Preferences”, “General”, “Use dark menu bar and Dock “.

Smarter Spotlight Search

One of the things we like best with Yosemite is the new Spotlight search. Rather than just be a drop down menu at the top right of the screen, bouncing it now as a box in the middle of the desktop.

In addition, it seeks not only locally on your computer, now you can also pick up information from Wikipedia and other internet services without having to open the browser. Entering the name of a file, you will also get a preview of the content.

You can also do calculations and conversions of units and value, and the search tool is smart enough to predict what kind of results you want yourself. Type “79F”, you will see how many degrees there are in Celsius. Entering “99USD” brings up how much it equals in Norwegian kroner.

In other words, we have a rather snazzy productivity tool that can simplify many everyday tasks.

Widgets in notification center

Just like iOS, OS X has a notification center that collects all the notifications from the operating system and programs in one place.

In Yosemite however, it is even more useful than before, thanks to a new tab called “Today”.

Here you can see the calendar entries, reminders and buttons that allow you to publish posts directly to social media like Facebook and Twitter, or send text messages via the Messages app.

“Today” – tab also supports widgets, and there is mikroapper as world clock and calculator, and third party developers will also be able to create their own widgets that you can download from the Mac App Store.

Our first thought was that this was far more reasonable use of the notification center than before, and we have taken ourselves to open it far more often.

It also helps that Apple has changed the way notification center called up; earlier, the entire user interface pushed to the left, but now it adds up all over the place.

Minimalist Safari

Apple’s browser has also been new in Yosemite, where changes in size.

The most noticeable change is that the title bar that displays the name of the website is removed. If you have only one site up, you will not see the name of it before you turn on the tab bar or open a tab to.

The default is that the address bar does not show the full website address and that favorite line of bookmarks is hidden.

everyone will appreciate the minimalist approach and prefer it as it was before. It is therefore good that a lot can be adjusted in the settings.

The new tab view is a nice new acquaintance, and is more transparent than before. Among other grouped tabs from the same website. From here you can quickly call up web pages you have up in Safari on your iOS devices.

New email features

Apple’s email program is relatively unchanged in the new OS but has gotten some new features that might come in handy.

If you add an image or a PDF file to an email message, you can now add annotations to text, arrows, and shapes directly within the program. Just click on the document and look for a small arrow in the corner and select “Text Comments”.

There is also a signature tools which allows you to add your signature using the trackpad on your Mac notebook, which is pretty neat. It took us a few attempts, however, before we got a decent result.

Otherwise, it is now possible to send files up to 5GB via iCloud with a new function relationships called Mail Drop.

Recipients who use Mail will be able to download the file directly while users of other email clients will receive a link to download.

Mac + iOS = true

Longtime Mac users have feared that Apple will be tempted to merge OS X with iOS, but for now the company sees the to be more than pleased that the two platforms coexist.

In Yosemite speaking, however, Apple devices together better than before, thanks to a handful of new so-called continuity functions.

If Your iPhone is connected to the same wireless network, you can now receive and make calls on your Mac. Especially handy if your phone is charging in another room, so you do not have to get up to pick it up.

Both devices must admittedly be logged in to the same iCloud account. On the Mac, you must also enter the FaceTime settings and turn on “iPhone mobile calls.”

When someone calls you, it pops up an alert on the screen, where you can answer or reject. Want to start a conversation, tap a phone number in apps like Contacts, Calendar, Messages or Safari.

Both have worked well in our experiments, although we think the sound quality could be better.

In addition, it has also been possible to send and receive plain text, not just iMessage messages as before.

Here you have to be logged in to the same iCloud account and connected to the same wireless network. So you must also turn on the “Forwarding text message” on your iPhone (under “Settings”, “Information), and then complete the setup on your Mac by entering a code.

Bluetooth must admittedly be enabled on both devices for it to work.

On Mac handoff pops up on the far left in the dock. If you’ve started to write an email message on your iPhone, you’ll see an icon for Mail. Clicking on it will open the email application on your Mac, and get up the same message you started writing on the phone.

Too little new?

Can you update?

Yes, if you have a compatible Mac. Can your computer run either OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion or OS X 10.9 Mavericks, it’s just a matter of time.

Also, remember to make a backup first. With Time Machine is a simple matter.

Double check also that programs that are important to you will work after installation. Website RoaringApps has a massive list of which apps are the Yosemite clear and not.

Since Apple has chosen to use the annual upgrade of OS X, we are no longer the major changes from one version to another.

Some might find it boring, but Yosemite contains several clever new features and changes.

Mac users who also have iPhone and iPad get probably the most out of it. Or put it rather bluntly, there is another reason for iPhone and iPad users to buy Mac if you do not already have it.

Dropbox rejects hacker attacks – VG

There is no hold in the claim that Dropbox accounts have been hacked, claims the company itself. It may still be wise to upgrade the security of your password.

A week ago we wrote about Apple sapphire glass manufacturer GT Advanced Technologies, which was delivered to skejrmglass iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

Now Netflix price increases – BergensAvisen

English captain was fired after allegations of sexual harassment – Dagbladet.no

An experienced pilot in English were grounded in April after the company shall have revealed five cases of sexual harassment over a few years, writes Today’s Business.

The case started with an actual event between the pilot and a female cabin crew in April. Then came several other female employees with similar stories.

The pilot acknowledges that he is giving women compliments, and he loves to give “bear hugs”, but argues that this is not sexually motivated, type DN.

Norwegian justifies dismissal of the captain of that flight safety is threatened as a result of the labor dispute.

The pilot himself says to DN that argument aviation safety is not the real reason he is put on the ground, but that the dismissal has experience in other labor.

The pilot tried to have the opportunity to fly in through an injunction in court, but did not succeed in this.

The court concluded that Norwegian is within their rights to take the pilot out of the service in the interests of flight safety, but has not taken a position on the resignation or allegations of sexual harassment.

The pilot must pay Norwegian court costs of 90,000 dollars.
