Do not take unnecessary risks in the Easter mountains – Lofotposten

Operators have developed mobile coverage on the largest excursion spots in the country this Easter and expects record traffic.
– But this does not mean that there is coverage everywhere in the mountains at Easter, says Amundsen .
– In the mountains, it despite increased development actually places yet without mobile coverage.
– Ca. 82 percent of Norway’s surface area has GSM coverage, but still 17 to 18 percent of surface-area has not mobile coverage, says Amundsen.
Amundsen strongly advise against going up avalanche mountain sides if possible to find mobile coverage in height.

Amundsen also points out that emergency number 112 to the police is the real emergency.
112 one might still use if one is in an area where private mobile operator does not have coverage. The solution then is to call 112 via network to another wireless carrier.
– But it requires that when turning off his phone, take out own SIM card, turn on your phone again without a SIM card in the phone and then calling the emergency number 112. Have another mobile operator coverage there will come through to the police emergency number. The same is not the case if you call 110 or 113. Only 112 can be used so without simcard in the phone.

Here is Amundsen mountaineering rules for sensible mobile use at Easter:

1. Be prepared to do without mobile in the mountains.
2. Do not let the mobile be your safety at sea or in the mountains!
3. Do not trust that you have coverage everywhere.
4. Not arrange to call at fixed times. You can then find yourself in a wireless coverage area.
5. Be careful if you have to get up the hill to search for mobile coverage. Do not take up avalanche slopes.
6. Save on battery and charger Remember and any battery booster.
7. Keep cell phone and battery booster near your body for Cold reduces battery life / capacity.
8. Keep your mobile phone away moisture, snow and water, which can make it unusable.
9. Have gladly PIN and PUK impaired even during the Easter trip.
