– Three possibilities
They also mentions three potential reasons why Sony is planning a “PlayStation 4.5″:
the first involves adapting the current console so that the microprocessor can both become smaller and more powerful. They can do this by taking advantage of recent improvements to AMD’s CPU and GPU technology.
Another possibility Eurogamer mentions is to upscale the current PlayStation 4 chip with new features so that it can offer various 4K content.
the last option they mention, is a smaller version of the console with minor enhancements to functionality.
they warn, however, against dividing up the PlayStation 4 users for two.
Xbox One
Also, Microsoft will consider upgrades to the Xbox One. Under Xbox Spring Showcase in February it seemed that Xbox boss Phil Spencer hinted to frequent hardware launches console.
– When we look at the console market as they are at present, we will see changes in the way that there will be more hardware improvements than before, and there will be more hardware more often than before.
