Game: What contrive Microsoft right now?
While Microsoft are betting more aggressively on their own game and their own game store in combination with Windows 10 and DirectX 12, adding now the games studio Lionhead.
Over and out of known game studio
Fable Legends has been a long time, and there are not many hours ago we received email from Lionhead regarding a Fable Legends update. A few hours later, and the studio is thus closed.
Also the Danish Microsoft owned studio Press Play is brought down. They had Project Knoxville on schedule.
In conversations with employees
Hanno Lemke, head of Microsoft Studios Europe, comments as follows:
“today we have some tough changes to announce that affect Microsoft Studios teams and projects in the UK and Denmark. After careful consideration we have decided to stop the development of Fable Legends.
We are now in discussions with the employees regarding the proposed closure of Lionhead Studios in the UK. In addition, we will embed Press Play Studios in Denmark and stops the development of Project Knoxville. “
Microsoft hopes to help employees find jobs in the Xbox division of the company, or other company in the same segment.
Even more control?
What is the reason why this happens is uncertain. Possibly Microsoft wants to have game developers their even more inhouse and further headquarters in Seattle now that they are betting on new technology and Windows 10.
“I speak for everyone in the Xbox when I say, even after these news that we remain committed to the development teams in the UK and Europe.
Xbox will continue to support new IPs and originality in games we offer on our platforms, whether it’s AAA blockbusters like Quantum Break from Remedy, or Sea of Thieves from Rare or unique new creations from indie developers Moon Studios with Ori. “
