Friday, 10th July 2015 – 9:33

According to the latest figures from IDC, the global PC sales fell by 11.8 percent in the second quarter in 2015, which is more than expected. As the company says, reflects the size of the fall in a strong second quarter in 2014 when Windows XP received the long awaited deathblow.

Apple does well

A total of 66.1 million PCs were sold during the three-month long period. IDC believes it is important to remember that these figures do not include sales of handheld devices, x86 servers and tablets, so all devices with removable keyboard is not included.

The only bright spot we saw this quarter came from Apple had an increase of 16.1 percent from last year and sold more than five million PCs. The market share of sales rose to 7.8 percent, up from 5.9 percent last year.

May be due to Windows 10

IDC wrote that they expect PC sales are expected to fall by a single digit number in the coming quarters, and Windows 10 can be salvation to PC makers.

Although Windows 10 becomes free for Windows 7 and 8 users, it may be that many people choose to wait with a new PC purchases before the upcoming operating system is on the market.
