Apple taus om farlig Ipad-lader – digi.no

Apple does not answer after a 10 year old girl received an electric shock from a defect Ipad charger at Stathelle school in Bamble in Telemark.

The charger went apart during use, such that the electrical pins were exposed.

The school checked all of its 200 Ipad chargers and found errors in 12 of them. The case was then reported to the National Communications Authority (Nkom) and Apple.

Apple that examines

How Apple themselves relate to the case, the company would not speak highly of.

Formally there is an ongoing collaboration between the company and the supervisory authority.

In Nkom says senior engineer Paul-Erling Lia that it is Apple who is now doing the grunt work.

– For the moment it is Apple who does extensive research to find out the extent of the problem and what that is why this has happened, says Lia to digi.no.

questions

We have asked Apple to answer the following questions:

  • How the company follows up this matter?
  • What does the company to find out how defective chargers landed on store shelves?
  • What the company has found out so far?
  • Who has produced the affected chargers?
  • What makes Apple to prevent such situations in the future?

Long wide range

The questions addressed first to the Norwegian office, which Nkom have contact with.

Here are digi.no referred to the Norwegian public relations office.

Where we get response to the questions in the form of an e-mail from London.

In the British capital Apple Europe a separate PR Manager for Ipad in EMEA. Ie Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Her name is Laura Bonney.

– Do not quote me on this …

– The safety of our customers are very important to us and we have designed all Apple products in line with national security requirements. We work closely with the authorities, she writes in the email.

But digi.no’m not allowed to cite her on this. Ms. Bonney emphasizes that this comment is from Apple and from not PR director for Ipad Europe.

After that this does not give a single concrete answer, we ask her politely to answer the questions digi.no have set.

There is one day ago, and Apple has not made a sound.

Solve plug

Nkom run a more open approach and has so far following information:

plug part of the charger is a separate part replaceable depending on the type of plug used in that country. It is the plug part that is the problem.

– According to our information, there are two manufacturers of these plugs and Apple are now investigating whether both plugs are affected, says senior engineer Lia.

He has been sent two of the defective chargers from school, including the one who inflicted pupil shock. The remaining 10 undergoes check at Apple.

– After a meeting with Apple today, we have confirmed that the weakness currently only found on chargers category VOLEX AP3D, says Lia.
