SKI: Several norwegians on holiday abroad get a economic shock, and some are threatened with violence. They are held financially responsible for the injuries others have inflicted on the vehicle that they rent.

European travel Insurance has got registered several cases where norwegians are charged money for someone else’s damages on the vehicle/space probes, both from Europe and now most recently from Thailand.

It informs the company in a press release.

- Often stands word against word, so the norwegians end up paying large sums of money for damage they did not even have applied to the vehicle, ” says Emma Elisabeth Vennesland, assistant information director of the European travel Insurance.

Vennesland tells about some Norwegian youth who was recently claimed for 10.000 nok (42.000 thb) for damages to the lessor in Thailand claimed that the boys had inflicted on a jet ski. If they are not paid, they were threatened with violence or lawsuit. Word stood against word, so it ended with that the youth paid.

Both the Norwegian embassy and turistpolitiet was contacted. The youth was told to pay or take the matter to court. The landlord was aggressive, so the boys scraped together the cash equivalent of 10.000 dollars, and paid.

check for damages before you hire

- Many does not check the vehicles carefully enough for damage before they rent, and being afterwards required for the co-payment for damages to the landlord believes they have inflicted. This applies to injuries on everything from car to boat, bike, moped and jet ski, ” says Vennesland.

- There is no coverage on the reiseforsikringen on things that are rented, so here one can easily go on an economic bang. Take pictures and video of the vehicle you are going to hire, and check carefully that there is damage that is inflicted in the past. This makes it easier to document later if you are charged for the deductible for any damage, ” says Vennesland.
