Your page January 6, 2009, Apple press conference. True to tradition, had then-CEO Steve Jobs a “One More Thing” in the end.
It was that all the music in iTunes was DRM-free, so they could be bought and played on all devices; with no restrictions on how many units you could play them on, as was the case previously.
“On Tuesday stumbled Apple,” I commented a few days afterwards, for already at that time was both Spotify and other buffet- services well underway.
At iTunes music was DRM-free was also no big news for us who was in love with subscription version. It had the other players offered long already .. .
It would still take more than six years before Apple finally came on. Now Apple Music launched, and we’ve spent a few hours with Apple’s new music service, which like Spotify, Tidal and the other allows you to stream unlimited music for a flat monthly fee.
” cheap “family subscriptions can provide success!
It is not often the words” cheap “and” Apple “as used in the same breath – the company is known for making products that cost a little extra, but it does not apply to music services.
The monthly fee for a single user is 99 dollars, which is quite normal in this market. It is therefore family plan that can prove to make the service very attractive for families in which several parts interest in music.
For 149 dollars a month, one may pay for up to 6 users within family, and each user gets their very own user profile, own playlists and so on.
Arch Rival Spotify came with family subscriptions last fall, but costs more. Where to pay the first user 99 million, while the rest of the family costs 50 pounds per head. Max’s dog five people, then lands on 299 dollars a month. It is actually twice what Apple does.
It should however be noted that Apple’s variant requires that you use family sharing feature.

Are you curious, try Apple Music without charge for three months. You must certainly turn off automatic subscription renewal on time if you do not want to pay ahead, but it’s a fairly common business model most operate with. That, incidentally, you do immediately and simultaneously enjoy the three free months by opening the menu at the upper left, choose View Apple ID , manage subscriptions, Apple Music and then turn off auto-renewal.
The service is currently only available via iTunes and on iOS devices, but an Android version is in the works and will be released in the fall.

Wondering what you like
Recommendations are central to Apple’s music service. When you start the service the first time you are presented with a variety of music genres, where you can tap once on the ones you like and twice those you like even better. Once that is done, you are presented with a variety of artists and repeat business, some in the same way as on Mixradio.
The choices you make affect what kind of music service recommends you, and you can also fill in with additional information about your musical tastes by to “heart” songs you played, which can also be done directly from the lock screen.
The recommendations can be compiled playlists within a genre, treats from a special group service think you’ll like and so on. Although I must say that Apple has hit well from the start – after playing a recommended list for an hour, I still have not skipped one song (and heart many of them), and they have also highlighted groups I like well, but as I have stated that I like in the beginning.
The recommendations can be found under “For You” -Flip. Next flip labeled “New” to find new releases, playlists and so on.
Hour Front radio
Beats 1, Apple’s limited open radio channel transmitted live from three major cities depending on the time of day. In the driver’s seat sits Zane Lowe, known DJ and radio host, including’ve had a music program on BBC Radio 1 for many years.
Behind radio-fold hides also several radio stations, which in practice are playlists of related music; not very different from the way it works in others flow services. You can also create radio based on a song or an album and then get a channel with music similar to, or start a radio based on a musical genre.
Radio feature is also available even if you do not choose to pay Apple Music.
Follow artists
Apple tried on this concept already in 2010 with Ping, where one via iTunes could follow artists they liked. Now they are trying again with “Connect”. Here is the idea that artists can share photos, videos, samples of music they are working on and so forth with their fans.
Currently, there are not many of them under connect-fold, but if you want you can automatically follow artists whose music you add to your playlists. However, Apple has not
Some weaknesses
During our hours of Apple Music we are very satisfied so far.
But as always there are a few things to put your finger on .
Among other things, it appears that the app has a little weakness in terms of playlists – when we pressed a song and would add it to a playlist, we were only faced with a blank screen.
We solved it by going to the “My Music” -Flip and create empty playlists from there. On this tab you will find the way music you already may have on the phone before, as well as songs you choose to add to your library from Apple’s cloud.
Another thing we miss is indication in relation to progress on downloading songs you have selected to save for offline usage. In addition, Apple should have highlighted the current song to a playlist, so it’s easy to see what’s coming as the next song. This is somewhat inconsistent and only works when you have started a song in the playlist, but not when you press the play button on the list as a whole.
We’ve also had some trouble with the net at work today, and it has meant that we have repeatedly experienced some hiccups here and there in the music playback. This may indicate that Apple caches as much of the song so we are used to from other services, but it can also be related to their servants probably experiencing very high loads the first day after service is launched globally.
Getting Started
Curious Apple Music? Do you have an iOS device you must update iOS to version 8.4 to get the updated music app, which you do via settings , general , Update . On PC and Mac launch iTunes and answer yes if you want to upgrade the program to the latest version.
As mentioned, it also an Android version in the fall, which will then be Apple’s first Android app.
