Gothenburg (ITavisen:) Everything depends on three things: content, content and again content. Or games if you will.
Nintendo Switch
While several of the editors fell in love instantly in Nintendo Switch, already from the first unveiling, I have been a little more cautious.
the Concept is new and exciting. That you seamlessly can move the gameplay from the hands to the big screen, is also very fun. But the handheld game consoles sell unfortunately worse and worse. Mobilspillene must be said to be a major reason for this, which we have seen with both Pokemon GO and the Super Mario Run.
First look
After having read and written about the Switch for several months, it was with great anticipation I showed up at nintendo’s headquarters in Kungsbacka, a short drive outside of Gothenburg, sweden.
Just to have it clear right away: We got unfortunately no time to test The Legend of Zelda: the Breath of the Wild. The influx was so great that several gave up after several hours in the queue. However, we promise to come back with a full review when the time comes.
However, there were plenty of other games and experiences:
- 1-2-Switch.
- Mario Kart 8.
- Room.
- Splatoon 2.
- Super Bomberman.
Entertaining mini-games
1-2-Switch has the potential to be a fun partykonsept. The package contains several mini-games that are in the main far up to the duels against each other. This includes a milk the cow game and a classic skyteduell between two cowboys.
the Former can look a bit peculiar and the boys in the correct age will probably giggle a little bit extra of hand movements to duellantene. Here does the dog not to pull as fast as possible, no, one must be precise in order to squeeze out as much of the milk of the teat as possible.
It is a lot of technology in the Switch controllers so that you can virtually feel pulling the milk out of the teat.
Skyteduellen is also a lot of fun. As if by milking, one uses each half of the Switch controller to control. The point here is to stare duellanten in the eye before you get the information to pull off. I lost unfortunately, 2 of the 3 matches against my colleague in the Game.no, but one can’t be the best in everything.
Mario Kart, Splatoon 2 and Bomberman
the Trip goes further to the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. A games series you are never too old to play. I played the actual N64 version as late as new year’s eve. Rainbow Road is still just as psychedelic and delightful as it was when I played as the most at the end of the 90′s.
Mario Kart 8 is just as fun as the series always has been. We didn’t have to run through all the courses and battle-arenane, but I got to test the promised very well. Multiplayer also worked to become very seamless, but it is something we will have to test further.
Splatoon and Bomberman are two famous series that also is ready for the Switch. I must honestly admit that I haven’t played the former, but the Bomberman I’m really a fan of. Splatoon 2 is a colorful and entertaining game that fits right into the concept to Nintendo.
Super Bomberman is also encouraging that the first time I played it. Each player uses each half of the Switch controller and it fits very well in just such a game. More is there really to say about it.
Hardware
So how perform the games on the Nintendo Switch? Well, the short summary is that it is too early to say after so short time with the console. That it in handheld mode only can view the 720p seems to be a good compromise when it comes to performance and battery life. A higher screen resolution would have decreased the battery life further.
Since these consoles were connected to the power, we can so far not say anything about battery life.
the Console feels OK to keep in. In no way heavy, but it may feel a little wide. The controllers are mainly good to keep, and especially Pro-controller shined on this area.
In my eyes was the almost as good as the Xbox One controller which I set as the most comfortable. However, this may change after more Switch-based gameplay.
It is also very exciting with the Switch controllers can be disconnected from each other and used separately. They are not comfortable enough for a hefty game session, but in the mini-games 1-2-Switch and Bomberman worked very well. In these games you don’t have as many buttons either.
Summary
After your trip to our beautiful neighbouring countries have skepticism subsided a bit. Although I’m personally not a fan of handheld consoles, it’s a pretty exciting concept Nintendo works with and I know that there are many players out there who are waiting for a just to console from the japanese giant.
the Games that were available for testing were mainly party play and casualspill, besides Zelda, and Nintendo are going to have to have tredjepartsutviklerne for that Switch to be a long-term success.
the Sale was the Wii a winner, but besides nintendo’s own games, was the support from other developers is minimal. There are loads of great developers who are working on games for the console. However, it does not help with the six-year-old Skyrim which was first launched in 2011 and is available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Now we are waiting excited to get the Nintendo Switch in on testbenken.
