(Dagbladet): Tesla founder Elon Musk has set a hairy mission to revolutionize personal transportation. Last night he showed up prototype of the much talked about Hyper Loop.
The system is based on long pipes where coaches pushed to near the speed of sound using solar energy, vacuum forces and magnets.
The pipes will be lifted above the ground with the master every 50 to 100 meters, and the carts inside hyperloopen scheduled travel at a speed of staggering 1287 km / h. That is a trip from Oslo to Trondheim in theory will take less than 25 minutes, with the human pneumatic tube technology.
– Redefining the future
The demonstration, which took place on Hyper Loop Technologies test track outside Las Vegas on Thursday morning Norwegian time, described as a success.
– We will work to redefine the future of transport, by providing a more immediate, safe, efficient and sustainable high-speed transport system, says Hyper Loop’s CEO Rob Lloyd said in a statement , according to the Guardian.
But there is still a long way until the goal of sending human pneumatic tube across US state borders.
Nattas Hyper Loop show was in reality only a test engine that pushed a sled at full speed into the dunes, as the company still has not completed a good braking system. The test is still an early sign that the concept may prove to work, and the company plans to conduct a test at full scale by the end of the year.
– Twice as fast as airplanes
It was in 2013 Musk revealed the ambitious plan to create a “fifth transport system” – “Hyper Loop” – which would make commuters and other traveler everyday far more effective.
– What you want is something that will never crash, which is at least twice as fast as airplanes, which are powered by solar energy and which runs continuously, so you never have to wait at the station, said Musk in an interview with Bloomberg in 2013.
the company’s engineers have since worked hard on realizing the vision of passenger transport through pipes in almost overlydsfart, type NTB.
the initial plan to build Hyper Loop tracks on the just over 600 km long stretch between Los Angeles and San Francisco. If Musk success of the project will journey between the two cities take 35 minutes, which is less than half the time a conventional airliner using today.
