It is Romsdals Budstikke who can report a new fungal species – found only in almeskog on the West Coast.
The brand new fungal species was found in Knutsliøyan in Sunnyvale community. According to the researchers who made the discovery, this is a picky critter that only grows on the Red List almekullsoppen.
– Once I saw the mushrooms, I realized that this was something new and wonderful. It was nice when I cut the mushrooms, and then the orange yellow color inside. It is unusual in this type of fungus, says Björn Nordén the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research.
– What is extra special is that this new species only grows on the Red List almekullsoppen. And almekullsoppen grow again only in the red-listed species of tree elm, explains Nordén.
The researchers spent two years in order to confirm that the fungus was a novelty in the world context.
