16-year-olds get to vote
After trying to vote for selected 16-year-olds in 2011, the politicians should let everyone in this age group have a vote in the local elections in 2015 So tough is not the current government!
There is a new attempt to vote for 16 year-olds in next year’s election. Local Government Minister Jan Tore Sanner has selected 20 municipalities to participate in the 2015 experiment. Municipalities are Oppegård, Gausdal, Gol, Horten, Lillesand, Ha, Kristiansund, Klæbu, Målselvfossen, Vadsø, Mark, Hamar, Porsgrunn, Mandal, Stavanger, Vats, Luster, Namdalseid, Tysfjord and Kautokeino.
Municipal Affairs explains in a press release why there is a new attempt with reduced voting age. The reasoning is good, although it should be possible to give all 16-year-olds to vote in Norway.
Lower voting age is to expand democracy, for better or worse. Anyone for democracy, should be for an extension and let the voting age be 16 years. Also 16 year olds pay taxes!
