En vanskelig hemmelighet
Bildene av den nye Slim-versjonen av spillkonsollen dukket den gang opp i en nettauksjon, men ble senere fjernet. Det var da Eurogamer som hadde fått tak i en versjon og la ut en video som de senere tok ned etter at Sony angivelig kom på banen med advokater.

Nå har nye bilder og sågar en video dukket opp, men Sony nekter fortsatt å erkjenne at denne konsollen faktisk finnes eller om det bare en prototype.

Elefanten i rommet
Det er spillsiden Let's Play Video Games som har fått tak i et eksemplar og de skriver i sin sniktitt at «la oss vedkjenne oss elefanten i rommet, Playstation 4 Slim har ikke blitt offisielt annonsert av Sony ei er den ment å være i salg nå».

En annen forbedring fra forrige versjon er at kontrolleren til denne maskinen har en modifisert berøringsflate som gjør at du kan se hvilken farge lyset har uten å tippe kontrollen rett opp og ned.

Mer brukervennlig
Resten av endringene er stort sett rene design-valg. Blant annet er det gjort en endring plassering av USB porter på forsiden av enheten, disse er flyttet litt fra hverandre og gir bedre plass. Det er en forbedring i tilgang til harddisken på baksiden av maskinen.

En annen liten endring i designet er at de har laget et lite «søkk» i den analoge styreflaten som gjør angivelig gjør den noe lettere å bruke.
