VR glasses from Oculus is something we’ve seen prototypes for several years, but a final model is not yet finished. Dog shows that the coming glasses initially only be used for the Windows platform, the company reported in his blog.
Oculus Rift
Headsets for “virtual reality”, performed as a mask / big glasses covering his eyes with one screen for each eye. The headset registers the user’s movements, and changes the image displayed on this basis. That way they are trying to create the illusion that the user is present in the world as the headset is displayed, such as a video game.
It is Atman Binstock, a manager for the development of precisely Oculus Rift, which via blog confirms that the company has chosen to place development of a version for OS X or Linux on ice until further notice.
– Our development for OS X and Linux has been put on pause to focus on the development of a high quality product in terms of VR glasses across hardware, software and content with Windows.
Will eventually
Yet it is very likely that they discussed VR glasses will get support for OS X and Linux, but when it will happen not saying Binstock anything about in his blog .
– We want to come back to development for OS X and Linux, but as of today we have no timeline for when that will happen.
Requires a modern machine
The mentioned blog post is basically about what hardware you’ll need to run a decent number of frames per second with the new Rift glasses. To meet the recommended requirements, you must have a machine of this caliber:
- Graphics: Nvidia GTX 970 / AMD 290 or higher
- Processor: Intel i5-4590 Similarly or better
- Memory: Minimum 8 GB or more
- Output: HDMI 1.3 or higher
- Operating System: Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 or later
