Buy Subsidies for electric cars can become ESA food – HegnarOnline

Bellona and Tesla owner Frederic Hauge believes the main principles of vehicle taxes in the revised national budget is reasonable, with the exception of the loss of tax exemption in 2018. The government is considering introducing a grant scheme to replace the current sales tax exemption, which would hit the most expensive electrical cars, like the Tesla.

– The politicians do not understand how a market leading to an industrial revolution established. A company like Tesla must start in høysegmentsmarkedet to get enough profit to take the technology to the cheap car, says Hauge to Dagens Næringsliv.

He believes the proposal is a strange antics and show that ESA recently approved current VAT exemption . Bellona will report the new aid scheme in the ESA if the government introduces a subsidy which discriminates against one or a few carmakers. Hauge gets support from attorney Erlend Bakken, who previously worked in competition and state aid department at ESA. Product neutrality is central to ESA, says Bakken.

– These changes require clean new notification to ESA. The question is partly about Norway has basis for differentiating between various price ranges, Bakken says, who believes the government will find it difficult to argue for such limits without being able to demonstrate that it has on the climate.
