HAMBURG / SMM : It is the first time a catamaran in carbon fiber can boast the title Ship of the Year.
As TU wrote Monday, Vision of the Fjords, formerly called seasight, obvious favorite for the award.

Vision of the Fjords has two electric motors of 150 kW each and two diesel generators at 749 kW. The battery pack supplied by Norwegian ZEM and is 600 kWh. ABB has supplied the electrical system on board.

NMD gets praised for being positive intent and solution to reach the finish with new rules and requirements for batteries in passenger ferries.
Maritime Director Olav Akselsen is pleased to hear that the industry has gained a more positive view of the Agency.

– It puts Norway on the map. We get inquiries from maritime authorities in other countries who want to Norway to learn, says Akselsen.
Director of NCE Maritime Cleantech, Hege Økland, told the TU that she hopes the cruise industry can learn from the Vision of the Fjords .
– A first step could be that they use cordless tender boats to transport passengers to and from the country when they visit the Norwegian fjords, she said.
Also economics minister Monica Mæland (H) sends his congratulations.
– They are truly a worthy winner of this year’s ship. A high degree of innovation is a prerequisite for winning this award. With its hybrid solutions, this passasjerkatamaranen go on renewable energy in the Nærøyfjord. They have they been both innovative and environmentally friendly at the same time. The government knows how to support Norwegian industry.
