Now you should update – Bergensavisen

Not since 2011, there have been a series of updates that are more extensive than what we will see from Microsoft on Tuesday 11 November. Microsoft has a habit of collecting their updates, the second Tuesday of every month – “Patch Tuesday” writes Tek.no.

This time there are 16 different security updates that are distributed on Internet Explorer, Windows, Office, Exchange Server and SharePoint Server.

Five of the 16 patches are marked as critical, which also is the term Microsoft uses of the most important updates. Each of these affects the Windows operating system, and one of them also touches Internet Explorer.

The critical flaw lies in everything from Windows Server 2003 and right up to the latest edition of the popular Windows version, ie 8.1. These fixes will prevent so-called “Remote Code Execution” and will therefore prevent any hackers from taking control of your computer to set it up with different varieties of malware.

These updates do not require unexpected restart your computer. It might be trivial for ordinary consumers, but it is a little larger project if you have responsibility for one or more servers.

In addition there are two updates that are marked as moderate, and the rest are marked as important.

Microsoft also reports that they will come with an upgraded version of the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool along with tomorrow’s graduation.

The updates will be available for Norwegian users from around 19.00 on Tuesday 11 November.
